Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask us about barefoot shoes, grounding soles, fit, and orders — answered plainly.

Barefoot basics

What makes a shoe “barefoot”?

Three things: a wide, foot-shaped toe box so your toes can splay naturally; a zero-drop sole (heel and forefoot at the same height); and a thin, flexible sole that lets your foot bend and feel the ground. Our shoes have all three.

I've never worn barefoot shoes. How do I start?

Gradually. Your feet and calves have been in supportive shoes for decades — give them time to adapt. Start with 30–60 minutes a day for the first week or two and build up.

Mild muscle soreness at first is normal; it's the same feeling as starting any new exercise.

Do barefoot shoes help with foot pain, plantar fasciitis, or bunions?

Many of our customers came to barefoot footwear while managing exactly these issues, and the wide toe box and natural mechanics are why they stay.

That said, every foot is different — we're shoemakers, not doctors, so for a diagnosed condition, check with a professional about transitioning.

The grounding sole

What is the copper grounding sole?

Selected models feature a conductive copper insert in the sole. When you walk on natural conductive surfaces (grass, soil, sand, unsealed stone), it maintains an electrical connection between your body and the earth — the same connection you'd have walking truly barefoot.

Over 55 published studies have explored grounding's effects on sleep, stress, and inflammation. Our shoes make the practice practical. Read the science →

Does the copper sole need maintenance?

No. If the copper contact points develop a dull patina over time, conductivity is unaffected — a quick wipe with a damp cloth restores the shine.

Fit & sizing

How do your sizes run?

Most models run true to length, but barefoot shoes fit differently — you want a thumb's width of space in front of your longest toe. See the Size & Care Guide for how to measure your feet in two minutes.

Are your shoes waterproof?

Our Winter Collection models are waterproof or water-resistant (noted on each product page). Standard sneakers and sandals are not — they're built to breathe.

How should I wash them?

Hand wash with mild soap and air dry. Machine washing and dryers shorten the life of any shoe. Care details are in the Size & Care Guide.
